Okay, so someone probably already pointed this out

and I’m too lazy to check

but I just realized that Usagi, who was born in 1978, turned 22 years of age in 2000

and, according to the manga, when Usagi hit 22 years old, she gave birth to Chibi Usa, took the throne, and spread the power of the Silver Crystal through out the Earth, giving everyone in it long life spans

So when Usagi took the throne

She was effectively starting her Silver Millennium at the start of the new Millennium

I always thought “Usagi ascended at age 22” seemed like an awfully specific and arbitrary number, until I did the calculations for fanfic purposes and went “….oh.”

I just really love how she did that but embedded it so subtly into the story instead of making a gimmick out of it, because at that point in the 90s, EVERYTHING was set in the year 2000.
